Ann Marie + Marco | Bothell, WA to Whistler, BC

We see every wedding outside Vancouver lower mainland as a "destination wedding" or at least an "out of town" wedding. We were thrilled to learn that we were going to shoot Ann Marie and Marco's wedding at Whistler. This super fun, cheerful, and kind couple are from Seattle, Washington; so this gorgeous Whistler wedding was actually a real destination wedding for them. They invited their families and friends to join them at one of their favourite places - Whistler, BC - in celebration of the special occasion. This was more than just a wedding day, it was a journey together. There are only so few chances in our lives where most of our loved ones could be at one place, at the same time, celebrating for something so loving and so remarkable. Well, Ann Marie & Marco's wedding was one!

The initial consultation with Ann Marie & Marco was one of a kind. We usually meet our out-of-town couples via Skype chats; but no, that was not the case with them. They drove up to Vancouver, and we couldn't tell you how excited and honored we felt. During the meeting, Marco mentioned about his idea of having a camera on him filming him going through the reception buffet! We began to brainstorm, expand the idea, and threw in more ideas and all the possibilities of what we can achieve with the GoPro we have. It sort of became a unique "GoPro" wedding video, and we don't normally use GoPro at weddings because it is not for every couple. Then we noticed Marco had his eyes wide opened but he was quiet, and we thought, well perhaps we weren't hitting that sweet spot of interest and might not get to work with this amazing couple after all. Then Ann Marie probably noticed our moment, she smiled and said, "he's excited, I can tell by that look on his face that he is pumped with all that GoPro ideas." That was it! That was the moment we felt, "this is it! we MUST work with them!"

Seriously, who lets their videographer mount a GoPro on the knife of which they used for cake cutting? How awesome is that?

This is one of the most anticipated weddings of the year. This was also our first wedding to shoot in Whistler as a team and most of us had never been to The Peak, especially in the summer time! It was so gorgeous up there, all that snow capped mountains, 360 degree of breathtaking views, and bright blue skies. Every great things requires great efforts. And you could probably tell that it wasn't easy to hike up there at all, not easy in Ann Marie's dazzling white wedding gown, not in Marco and his groomsmen's hot looking suits, and most definitely not with a ton of video (and photo) gear with us on a hot day. It was one of the most challenging and tiring wedding portrait shoots we had to do. But it was worth it. So worth it for the view and most importantly for this amazing couple and their fun bridal party. If you read all these and still haven't seen the video, do that now, and please tell us you love it! Enjoy =)

Jessica + Howard | Cecil Green + Wedding Yacht Wedding

We had the pleasure of being part of Jessica and Howard's engagement and wedding.  This young, easy-going couple loved being intimate outdoors and we get to really explore and use the temperate rainforest that is in the city as their backdrop.  Jessica is a quiet individual, and Howard is a funny and energetic, and romantic.  Howard surprised Jessica when he took her on a horse-drawn carriage ride date deep in the forest.  In a clearing on the soft bed of the forest floor, he hired Jessie from We Do Weddings Etc to set up a table, flowers, champagne, a violinist, and asked for her hand in marriage.

We were so thrilled to be invited to capture their lovely wedding just a couple months later! The couple said their vows in an intimate outdoor wedding at the beautiful Cecil Green Park House and held their reception on a yacht. Their wedding theme colour was lavender purple which matched so beautifully with the summer flowers and the greenery.

Lydia + Ken | Snowy Engagement at Cypress Mountain North Vancouver

We are so excited to be sharing this snowy engagement session we did with Lydia + Ken at Cypress Mountain last year (can't believe it's 2015 already!). It was a very challenging session for all of us, mostly because how freezing cold it was. It was the toughest for Lydia in her strapless wedding gown in such cold snowy condition. So glad that we brought some little disposable heat packs for them, Ken's hands were turning almost purple at the end of the session, which really worried me. We wished we had brought at least 20 of the heat packs to stuff them up! All in all, they were such troopers and braved out the freezing cold session all the way. Not a single complaint and we managed to take more than what we initially planned for, the extra hour was well worth it. And luckily we got to shoot a little more with the last bit of sunlight before the sun disappeared behind the mountains. Big shout-out to Lisa from from Shing Weddings, what kind of fantastic planner tags along and assists at engagement sessions? Lisa does! Super awesome planner to have for your big day! Call her up!

Vivian + David | Snowy Session | Mt. Seymour North Vancouver

It was a last minute hang out + photo shoot and so glad it happened and turned out to be a great portrait session. One night we just asked Vivian and David if they're up for a quick snowy session with us because we were going to scout Mt Seymour and check out the snow condition. The snow up there wasn't that great, we were a little disappointed but with little 10 minute hike, we managed to find this path with more snow and a cool looking dam/water fall. Vivian and David were extremely fun and easy to work with, they would say yes to anything we ask them to do (but of course we put safety first always!). Prior to the shoot, they told us that they aren't photogenic and worried they might look awkward in front of the camera. Seriously, I LOVE how the images turned out. Awesome couple with genuine personalities with beautiful smiles. Thank you Vivian and David for doing this scout + shoot with us. Although this couple isn't engaged (yet), I can't wait till when the day really comes! *hint David*

Tina + Peter | Wedding Highlights | QE Park + Vancouver Aquarium

We learned that Tina and Peter share a fond love for learning, conservation, wildlife, and travelling when we got to know them better.  This dynamic duo had visited almost every major museum and aquarium in North America which is why they had decided to hold the reception a very special venue: the Vancouver Aquarium!  The couple's combined love for conservation led them to pick the aquarium because they knew that all proceeds the institution earns will be put towards preservation and rehabilitation efforts.

Peter, the groom, took great pleasure planning out all the details and decorations of this wedding: it was held underground next to the beluga pools with beautiful sand and aquatic themed centerpieces on satin green tablecloths.  Their wedding cake topper featured two adorable floating sea otters, one wearing pearls and one holding a badminton racket, commemorating the sporting activity where they first met.  The wedding was so beautiful and dreamy and the beluga even danced with the newlyweds when the DJ started playing dance music!  We had such a great time capturing the couple's special moment with all the other fish and marine animals.  This shoot is definitely going down in our books as one of our best experiences at a wedding!

Shout-out to the amazing vendors!

Our 1st Company Year-End Party 2014

Welcome to Modern Romance's first company year-end party! We were SO excited to have our own first year-end company party. It was meant to be a Christmas party but James and Lilly were going to be out of town so we decided to have it earlier. I had so much fun planning this, buying the prizes, printing the little things, and checking out the venues and I have to say, event planning is fun but could be a little stressful, too (hey, we're a photo + video studio after-all ha ha!). But seeing all the details coming together feels amazing. I love our #morofamily <3

We have our own hashtag #moroparty2014 Let's get social!

We also had dress code - "anything but black!". For those that know us, we ALWAYS wear all black (from shirt, to pants, all the way to shoes and socks). So of course for the first time being together at once, we did not want anyone to wear black. Don't you love dress codes. :P

Thanks to Andy and Gary setting up our "Red Carpet Entrance Without the Carpet" hehe

Cedric here prepping for the behind the scene photos and all the weddings we have done in the past years.

Seating arrangement was fun, although I totally looked quite angry here... (?)

Party with wine and prizes!

Minimal decor all day! A little Christmas touch but not crazy. (thanks to Steph from Balconi Floral for the flowers I got at the workshop just the night before! xoxo)!

Woohoo, all the minions and their plus ones started to arrive, walking through that "red carpet but no carpet" little entrance.

What is a party without an ice breaker? Knowing all the group games from my summer camps days made it tough because many of the games were definitely too "cute" to play with a bunch of adults! I decided to go for something simpler and slightly awkward - Death by Shaking (or some called "Murderer").

Guess what we were looking at ...? BTS and more BTS!

I had prepared a little surprise for the minions :D I wanted to recognize the hard working teammates and add a little humor to something that they could take home with. So I thought, hey why not a little award? Each award certificate has something funny with their title and what they are good at (or not good at) and we will keep those as secrets :P

And... of course we had prize draw! I was so excited to do this, always fun to see people's reactions to what they get :P

I loved the name tags with their titles plus a little humor.
